Sunrise Rotary, Community Foundation outfits Senior Center dining room

MENOMONIE, Wis. (Barb Lyon for THE NEWS)— When the Menomonie Area Senior Center counted its blessings last year, two grants from local foundations and civic groups were high on the list. “Project Tables & Chairs” received $8,456.48 from the Sunrise Rotary Club of Menomonie and $4,675.00 from the Community Foundation of Dunn County for the purchase of new dining room tables and chairs for the center.

Continuing its tradition of providing financial support to worthy organizations, the Sunrise Rotary Club of Menomonie donated part of the proceeds from Rotary Fest 2017. Additionally, Rotarian Millie Lenselink wrote a grant to Rotary International to enable the donation to cover the expense of all 90 chairs.

The Community Foundation of Dunn County, a charitable organization dedicated to enriching the quality of life to the community, awarded a grant to the Menomonie Area Senior Center as part of its 2017 annual grant making process. The generous grant exceeded expectations and enabled the purchase of all 10 tables.

Both organizations serve a great need in the community by partnering and funding specific needs for non-profits.

Working together in this manner has an even greater impact on the community.

The much-needed improvement to the dining room at the Leisure Services Building means that guests can be accommodated with safer and more comfortable seating for the senior centers weekly Community Friendship Dinner and many fundraising dining events.

The Senior Center serves more than 5,000 meals a year, all prepared by volunteers in the certified commercial kitchen.

In addition to being well known as a great place to eat, the Senior Center can now boast it being a great place to sit as well. The new furniture arrived in time to be showcased at the Senior Centers’ Community Friendship Christmas Dinner on Dec. 13, 2017.

Rotary Fest 2018 will be held at Vision Quest on April 21. The “Party With A Purpose” is a popular evening of food, entertainment and fellowship. This years proceeds will be donated to two organizations, “Watch Us grow Children’s Village” and “Let’s Go Fishing Menomonie Area.” For more information visit
